Picky Eater

I hate when I go to a restaurant and the menus have pictures to try and intice  you.  I’ll admit that it has worked on me several times, which is the reason behind this post.  So, I am guilty of ordering a meal based on the picture alone.  That’s how good they make it look.  So why, when they bring me my plate does it look nothing like the picture and everything I imagined it would taste like is way off?  It’s true!!  We do eat with our eyes.  If something looks amazingly good, we assume it’s going to taste that way.  If something looks gross and disgusting, well, we assume that that’s exactly how it’s going to taste.  But the reality is that’s not always the case.  I’m a very visual eater.  If it doesn’t look good, I won’t even give it a second thought.  I’m sure I’m missing out on some amazing dishes, but, im too picky an eater to give it a try.  I’m a total meat and potatoes kind of individual.  I can eat a cheese burger and fries every day.  Haha.  What about you?  Are you an adventurous eater? Do you or have you ordered based on the pictures alone?  Sound off…

  1. Anxious Mom

I’m a very picky eater. I’m that person who knows exactly what they’re going to order no matter where they go (some variation of a plain burger, basic salad, and plain baked potato). I hate trying new things.

    • So with you on that. It’s funny because, everywhere we go to eat, I have a “Usual”. 😄

  2. Just Plain Ol' Vic

When I did a Summer overseas study in Taiwan, I based my reading habits solely on the “does it look or smell good” test. It was only after I tried a dish and liked it that I actuality asked what was in it.

    • When you learned what was in it, did you still eat it? I did that one time. I started to eat something because it looked good and a couple of bites in, I asked what it was. When they told me it was intestines, I got completely grossed out and never ate it again.

      • Just Plain Ol' Vic

Smelled good, tasted good…yup, sure ate it again. Admittedly I was raised in an environment where eating “odd” food was the norm, so it doesn’t really freak me out.

      • That’s a good thing then, because I was always lied to about what it really was, just so I’d eat it. Then I’d find out the truth mid way through or after I was done. I used to get real angry. I guess that’s why I’m such a picky eater.
