Friday The Thirteenth

A while back I had done a post called “Pitbulls”. It was about my neighbor’s pitbulls attacking my other neighbor’s chihuahua mixes. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to creat a link yet so that you could just read it from here if you wanted to. Anyway, I was helping the boy take out the garbage earlier and I noticed the neighbor’s blue pitbull in our back yard, the same one that was involved with the mauling of those little mixes. He broke through the fence again. This dog is scary looking and he was so emaciated. He looked terrible. I went over to their house to let them know but they weren’t home. However, their young daughter happened to be across the street, so I let her know. She asked me if I could just throw him back over. Excuse me?! Uh, this dog has a criminal record. I wasn’t particularly in the mood to get attacked today, so, no thanks. Turns out, she was afraid of him because she said that their dog didn’t really know her. Wow! I go back home and grab a rake to try and scare him back home. It worked, but the fence was still broken so that meant he could come back at any time. We had to leave because the little one had an appointment. Upon returning, I went out to feed my dog and the blue pit was standing with his head through the broken fence just staring at me like he wanted to eat me or something. Here comes my dog from around the corner and to my horror, this is what I see….

I was in complete shock. Their blue pit attacked my baby. I felt so angry at myself because I wasn’t here to protect him. I called our local SPCA and they told me to take my dog to the pet emergency hospital and they’d meet us there. The vet examined him and thank goodness he didn’t need stitches or surgery. They cleaned him up and gave him antibiotics and pain meds. The SPCA officer arrived and we gave him all the info. He said they’d keep us posted with the investigation. My Bubba isn’t a fighter. He is so loving and gentle and I believe that’s why he is so wounded, because he didn’t fight back, he didn’t know how to defend himself. It breaks my heart to see him like this. 😞 What a terrible Friday 13th.

  1. That’s awful. I hope he feels better soon and that the other dog is removed and can be rehabilitated.

  2. That’s terrible. I’m a complete dog nut, but so many pit bulls are just nasty. It is neglect and lack of socialization but also it is they type of people who are attracted to a dog with a dangerous reputation.

I hope your guy heals quickly! They don’t seem to feel pain the way we do.

    • That is very true. I hardly ever see the family interact with this dog. And then to see him so emaciated made me feel bad for him. So, I’m not angry at the dog, more the owners for neglecting him. I think he was just at his breaking point. Thank you for your well wishes. I’ll let bubba know. He’ll appreciate it as much as I do.
